How to Choose a Wheel? (Part 1)? | JWHEEL

The wheels are very important parts of a car. They can not only let your car run smoothly, but also let it look fashionable. So to spend some time on investigating the wheels before you place an order is really necessary.

You may change the wheels of your car to upgrade it. But do you know how to choose a wheel? And what makes a good wheel? This passage will tell you.

Firstly, to really know about wheels, you should get to know the structure of a wheel. Here are some important parts and parameters that you need to know.

Barrel is also called wheel rim, it is the part of a wheel around which a tire is mounted. Its nominal width and nominal diameter are usually indicated in inches.

Spoke is a device to protect the wheel, and it’s also called the Rib. The spoke can be an individual part that can be connected to the barrel with bolts, and can also be a whole entirety together with the barrel. Spokes are the most conspicuous part to show the style of the wheel.

PCD is the pitch center diameter, which is the diameter of the circumference of the CIRCLE

centered on the wheel and surrounded by several screw holes, as well as the number of the

holes.

ET is the Off-set value, the deviation of the wheel mounting surface from the center line of the

wheel rim. Off-set is defined as the distance between the rim's mounting surface and the center of the rim, with Positive Offset in the outward direction and Negative Offset in the inward direction of the rim.

CB means center bore, which is for the connection between the wheel and the car. CB also indicates the hub hold diameter.

When we refer to the parameters of a wheel, we usually see the following format:”18 “ and “ 8 “ represents respectively the rim diameter and the rim width, this two numbers are the critical parameters for the size of the suitable tire. “ J “ is the code of the flange shape ( the shape of the wheel lip) , there are also E, F, KB, L, V and so on. “ 35 “ is the ET value, “ 5 “ represents the number of the bolt holes, and “ 114.3 “ is the PCD of the wheel. These parameters decide the size of the wheel, the way of installation, and the tire that the wheel matches.

There are mainly five types of wheels: Steel wheels, aluminum alloy casting wheels, aluminum alloy forged wheels, carbon fibre composite wheels, and magnesium wheels.

The steel wheel is easy to produce. Its advantages are low cost and good ability of anti-metal-fatigue, though it doesn’t look as good as other kinds of wheels. What’s more, it’s heavy and easy to rust, with poor ability of heat dissipation. Therefore, the steel wheel has been out of the market now. But if you want to modify a retro car, the steel wheel is a good choice.

The aluminum alloy casting wheel is popular in the market because it’s cheap, with high production efficiency. However, it’s easy to be damaged when impacted heavily. It works well on the common car, but is better not used on a retro car, because it might be deformed or damaged easily.

The aluminum alloy forged wheel is lighter and harder than the casting wheel, and is used widely on the retro cars. The intensity of the forged wheel is 3 times higher than the casting wheel, but lighter, and can be in more styles.

The carbon fibre composite wheel has a lot of advantages, like light weight, high intensity, high hardness, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, stable structure. But as the production cost of this kind of wheel is too high, seldom do the factories apply this production technology to common wheels.

The magnesium wheel is also light, with extraordinary mechanical performance and fuel-saving ability, so it’s welcomed by the racing car manufacturers. But magnesium is extremely demanding in terms of maintenance, with high production cost, therefore, it’s not yet popularized.

Jwheel, as an professional wheel manufacturer, concentrates in R&D and manufacturing of aluminum alloy wheels, including casting wheels, forging wheels and flow-form wheels. The products of it have passed the certifications of SEI、SEMA,VIA, JWL, JWL-T, TUV and so on. Since establishment, Jwheel has been developing steadily, with rich experience of designing and producing aluminum alloy wheels. It has earned the appreciation of both domestic market and foreign market with its high technology, good quality and customer service. It provided OEM service to many international brands like Vossen, OE Wheel, TSW, Rays, ProLine, Oxygen, AUTEC, etc., and it also provide ODM service, that is, for producing a new wheel, you can just provide a sketch, drawing or picture, and then Jwheel will finish the rest parts. By the way, the MOQ of forging wheels is four. (For more information, just go to the website: https://www.jjjwheel.com)
