The traditional manufacturing methods of aluminum alloy wheels include casting molding and spinning forming. Among them, casting molding can be divided into gravity casting and low pressure casting. According to different manufacturing processes, it can be divided into single piece, two pieces and three pieces according to the structure of the wheel. In one-piece, the entire ingot is placed on a forging die for a single extrusion, the basic shape of the spokes and rim are formed together, and the hub becomes a single piece. The two-piece type means that the rim part and the spokes are forged separately. The three-piece type means that the spokes and the rim are forged separately. The rim is forged in two parts. The three-piece rim should be welded and sealed as a whole to prevent air leakage. Screws are used for the spokes and the rim fixed. Multi-piece aluminum alloy wheels, spokes and flanges adopt traditional laser welding. Laser welding has the advantages of fast welding speed and high welding precision, but has disadvantages such as expensive welding equipment, high energy consumption, and prone to welding defects.
The use of friction stir welding technology to weld the hub means that the spokes are placed on the rim and connected by high-frequency rotary welding joints, so that the parts are melted and fused under the action of high temperature, and are connected together due to thermal expansion and contraction.
