How to see the size of wheels when playing with modified cars?

Many modification people have misunderstandings when choosing wheel size, especially they can't systematically calculate the wheel size they need to modify. 1. The correct way to write wheel size

The correct way to write the size of a car wheel is: AA X BB J +/- CC.

The "AA" is the diameter of the wheel. For example, the usual number for an 18" wheel or a 20" wheel.

The "BB" is the width of the wheel, followed by a "J" which is linked to the previous value and is expressed as an inch. 1J = 25.4 mm.

The "CC" is the ET value of the wheel in millimetres. ET is derived from the German word EinpressTiefe, which translates as "press-in depth". The smaller the offset, the more the wheel will be out of the car after installation. The wheel offset (ET) is measured in mm and is the distance from the centre line of the wheel to the mounting surface. Assuming that the new wheel has a 54mm offset and the original wheel has a 51mm offset, the new wheel will be fitted with a 3mm offset.

As an example.

A set of wheels with dimensions written as 19X10J +35, then we know that this is a set of 19" wheels with a width of 10" and an ET value of plus 35mm.

2. How to read wheel sizes

The diameter of the wheel, which is often referred to as the wheel size, can be seen visually on the tyre, in the tyre specification, such as 225/45R17, this 17 is the size of the wheel, simply put this is a 17 inch wheel.

3. How to calculate the size of a wheel

The two most important elements are the width and the ET value.

The width of a wheel is the "BB" J, which is a number multiplied by a "J". As mentioned before, 1 J is equal to 25.4 mm, so the width of a wheel is a number multiplied by a length of 25.4 mm, the final unit being millimetres. However, it should be noted that when the width of the wheel changes, it is reflected equally on both sides of the wheel.

This means that an 18 x 10 J wheel is 0.5 J wider on each side of the wheel than an 18 x 9 J wheel (assuming the ET is the same), assuming that the ET is the same. 12.7 mm more than before.

As an example.

Suppose there is a set of wheels with a size of 18x10.5J +10 as your model, and you want to choose a set of wheels that keep the ET the same but are 25.4 mm further out than this set, then you need to be 1J further out on one side, which equals 2J more than the model wheels overall, and the final desired wheel size is 18x12.5J +10.
